Have you ever wondered if a Kaffe Fassett book would be worth the purchase? The answer is yes, because they have amazing quilts photographed in beautiful locations paired with really well written quilt making directions.
Kaffe’s books seriously work as both coffee table eye candy and pattern instructions.
Note: I’ll include lots of affiliate links in this post to help you find the products I mention. If you purchase through one of my links, I earn a small commission. Thanks for supporting the blog and quilting bee forum!
I got my first two Kaffe books at the end of a quilter’s estate sale, when they were offering 75% off. I ended up paying only a few dollars each for

Many of his quilting books focus on a location and include some quilts with large blocks that would be easy for beginners. Even simple piecing paired with his vivid fabrics looks amazing!
Here is a list with affiliate links to some of his books:
And just for fun he has a coloring book!
The artist in me would love to read Kaffe Fassett In The Studio and The Artist's Eye. He also has a book inspired by museum art: Kaffe Fassett's Museum Quilts.
And his book on how focusing on a common design theme in the creation of a quilt can add so much impact,
is rich quilt inspiration.
For the theme of circles, he made the Scrappy Rice Bowls pattern, focusing on fabrics with round shapes. It includes everything from dots to oranges!

I just got the best surprise when I purchased a used book: an autographed copy! 🖊️ 📕

Next Year I’m going to a Kaffe Fassett workshop. He often teaches a diamond quilt, and this book had one, so I ordered a copy. I think the actual one he teaches is Contrast Diamonds, which has an ombre effect. The photo from the book (below) is beautiful.

I’m thrilled to have gotten an autographed copy! If you’ve never seen his books, they lay the pattern and assembly out so well. They even include piece templates at the back.

I encourage you to get a new or used book, but fair warning: you will likely have to get your own autograph!
If you have never seen his bold fabrics, here’s a peek
Fabric note for Texas friends: the quilt shop in Wimberley has a large collection of Kaffe Fassett Collective fabrics.
Kaffe also creates needlework, crochet books, and knitting books, which I cannot vouch for, but would expect to have the same clear directions and attention to detail.
Do you have a favorite Kaffe book? If you have made one of his patterns, please show us over on the forum!
Much love,
Holly
The photos here are my own photos of the books I own. Original photography credit goes, of course, to each book's photographer.
