Sewing Notes:
You will be using 3" squares to make your half-square triangles. Ignore the pattern instructions to cut your squares at 2 7/8". Cut to 3" and you will have a little wiggle room when you trim the half square triangles back to 2.5".
Don't be confused note: The pattern refers to your 2.5" half square triangles as finishing at 2". This means that once your 2.5" hsts are all sewn into blocks, their finished measurements will be 2".
Two tools that really will extremely helpful for these blocks:
1/4” tape - this will save you from marking lines on all those squares!! If you bought a cheap version with fat lines, you need a do-over version with thin lines. Ask me how I know.
2.5” trim tool with a diagonal line Make squaring up all those little hsts easier.
I am an Amazon affiliate. If you purchase through the above links, I make a small commission. Thank you. It helps me pay for things like 1/4" tape and trim rulers!
If you'd like to make your quilt design less pixelated, HSTs are the solution! If you'd like to add multiple HSTs around the edges of your heart, make them with color on one side, and your background strip color on the other. I haven't even counted how many you would need. It's a lot. Stay tuned for the HST video that will explain how to make multiple HSTs at a time.
Happy Sewing!
