Starting in February 2026, Happy Quilty People + the Artsy Girl Gang are hosting a block of the month sew-a-long for Jen Kingwell's scrappy heart sampler quilt. We want to start with the easiest blocks and learn as we work toward the more difficult blocks.
This quilt is an intermediate level quilt, and meant to be pieced with a sewing machine. If you are a beginner level quilter, we will help you along with tips and tutorial videos. We also suggest that you could make this project easier by treating it as a patchwork and including whole blocks of fabric instead of pieced blocks.
You will need to purchase the BoHo Heart Pattern Booklet.
Below is the schedule we will follow. We will make about a dozen blocks per month for 9 months, then end with a month for heart layout and assembly, a month for adding background strips, and then getting it quilted by February 2027!

Note: Work in sections as you begin to sew. If it seems easier to add background strips as you go, work on having half the quilt assembled this month.
Month 11 December Background Strips
Instructions p. 29
Optional: using Layout Map p. 30, you can cut your background strips wider than the suggested 1 1/2". Each square on the grid is 1". Remember to add 1/2" seam allowance to each strip.
Design note: The heart touches the top and sides of the quilt. You could increase the background top height and sides by 3" so that your binding will not touch the heart.
Month 12 January Quilt it!
Quilt as desired. You could do straight line, free-motion, or hand quilting. This is such a special project that you shouldn't hesitate to have it professionally quilted.
You did it! Enjoy your beautiful handiwork.
